Morganton Man Convicted of Statutory Rape 10/31/2013 3:00:56 PM
25-year-old James Allen Collins of Morganton was convicted of felony statutory rape this week in Burke County Criminal Superior Court.
Collins was sentenced to no less than 144 months and no more than 233 months in the North Carolina Division of Adult Correction. Upon his release, Collins will be required to register with the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry for the remainder of his life and be subjected to satellite-based monitoring.
The crime occurred in September 2012 in the City of Morganton. The victim was under the age of 16.
Investigator Marty McNeely from the Morganton Department of Public Safety handled the investigation and Assistant District Attorney Eric Bellas prosecuted the case. The Honorable Robert C. Ervin presided over the conviction.
Collins will be transported to the Division of Adult Correction for processing.
