Identity of Man Hit by Train Released 10/17/2013 4:32:24 PM
The Lenoir-Rhyne University student hit by a train in downtown Hickory early this morning (October 17) has been identified as 21-year-old Ryan Dwayne Hamner.
Hamner was hit at about 3 a.m. near Main Avenue and 1st Street N.W. He was taken to Frye Regional Medical Center for treatment of at least one serious injury that was initially described as non-life-threatening. Hamner was later airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. As of 2:15 this afternoon, he was listed in critical but stable condition.
Authorities believe Hamner was sleeping on the railroad tracks when the accident occurred. Hickory Police continue to investigate.
