Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Falls to 14th Ranked Wingate 10/3/2013 9:34:39 PM
The Wingate Volleyball Team (12-2, 8-0) made it nine victories in a row with a 3-0 sweep of Lenoir-Rhyne (6-4, 3-3) Thursday evening in a South Atlantic Conference match at Cuddy Arena.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division II, defeated the Bears by scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-10.
Wingate's Anna Hilton (Hickory, N.C.) finished with a match-high 13 kills to go along with 17 digs while Iris Brewer (Cincinnati, Ohio) added 27 assists as the Bulldogs remained unbeaten in league play this year.
The Bulldogs' Susie Murach (Burke, Va.) totaled 10 kills as well for the Bulldogs, who hit .381 for the match to go along with eight service aces in the victory.
Wingate has also won 22 consecutive conference matches dating back to last year.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which lost its third straight league contest, was led by sophomore outside hitter Ashley Wells (Lovingston, Va.) with eight kills and sophomore setter Briana Gottberg (Mooresville, N.C.) with 27 assists in the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road when it travels to Hartsville, S.C., to take on Coker in a South Atlantic Conference match on Friday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m.
