Lenoir-Rhyne Men Upset Fifth Ranked Wingate in Soccer 9/22/2013 10:34:28 PM
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team (5-1, 1-0) upset Wingate (3-2, 1-1), 1-0, Sunday evening on the road in its South Atlantic Conference opener at the Wingate Soccer Complex. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II.
Senior forward Gabriel Jones (Chiswick, ENGLAND) scored the lone goal of the match at the 65:22 mark of the second half. Jones finished off a shot at the inside right post for his first goal of the year.
Senior goalkeeper Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) earned the shutout victory, his second straight and third of the season. Dill made three saves on the night.
Wingate's Sanjit Kang (Mississauga, Canada) suffered the loss in goal despite allowing just one score to go along with a save. The Bulldogs have lost two straight matches.
The Bulldogs held an 11-4 advantage in shots taken but the Bears held on for their fourth straight victory. L-R also won against Wingate on the road for the first time since the 2006 season.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Coker in a conference matchup Wednesday at 7:30pm.
