Another Sewer Overflow in Morganton 7/8/2013 11:53:12 AM
Heavy rains in Burke County have again caused a sewer spill in the City of Morganton. The spill started July 4th around 10:30 p.m. at a manhole near the Wastewater Treatment Plant on Vine Arden Road. The spill was ongoing heading into the weekend.
Water Resources Director Brad Boris said he doesn’t expect any adverse impact from the spill, which is mostly rainwater inflow. Impressive rainfall totals each day last week have left the ground extremely saturated, causing stormwater inflow into the sewer system. Residents do not need to boil their drinking water.
Construction continues on the improvement project at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
