Agencies Jointly Investigate Fatal Incidents at Boone Hotel 6/10/2013 5:08:22 PM
In connection to three fatalities at a Boone hotel, the Appalachian District Health Department is consulting with the Boone Police Department, the Boone Fire Department and Watauga Emergency Management. Those agencies are teaming up to conduct a public health investigation at the Best Western Plus Blue Ridge Plaza at 840 East King Street in Boone.
On June 8, 11-year-old Jeffrey Lee Williams of Rock Hill, South Carolina died at the hotel and his mother was hospitalized. The incident occurred in the same room where two elderly persons where found deceased on April 16 of this year. While no evidence has been discovered linking the two incidents, Investigators continue to explore all possibilities.
The N.C. Public Health Preparedness & Response Branch assisted in providing guidance and personnel support for the investigation. The Regional Response Team 6 out of Asheville responded with personnel and equipment to assist in the investigation, as well.
Investigators are awaiting the arrival of the State Licensing Board.
