Iredell Athletic Club President Charged with Embezzlement 5/8/2013 6:51:24 AM
41-year-old Mark Anthony Potter of Heavenly Drive in Statesville was arrested by Iredell Co. Sheriff’s Officers Saturday (May 4) on a charge of felony embezzlement.
Events leading to Potter’s arrest began on March 7, when the Sheriff’s Economic Crime Unit was assigned to investigate an embezzlement case. Members of the South Iredell Young Athletes Association reported to the Sheriff’s Office that they had gone over the association’s finances and found that a total of $14,792.66 had been taken. Several ATM withdrawals and check card purchases were called into question, as well as checks written to the former president, Mark Potter.
Upon further investigation and after obtaining copies of the association’s financial records, Investigators determined that Potter had taken the money for personal use.
After his arrest, Potter was given an $8,000 unsecured bond. He’ll appear in District Court on May 20.
