Lenoir Man Arrested in Connection to Wednesday Night Shooting
5/2/2013 1:57:23 PM
49-year-old Joseph Matthew Golds, Jr. of Pisgah Church Road in Lenoir has been arrested by Lenoir Police on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and discharging a weapon into occupied property.
He was arrested in connection to an incident around nine o’clock last night (May 1) when Lenoir Police responded to reports of a shooting at N.E. Ellison Place. Officers arrived to find the victim, 46-year-old Derek Shea Enloe, Sr., suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper left shoulder. Caldwell County E.M.S. took Enloe to Caldwell Memorial Hospital where he was treated and later released.
The victim and witnesses identified Golds as the shooter. Prior to the arrival of Police, Golds had left the scene in a vehicle, heading in an unknown direction. A short time later, Lenoir Police, with assistance from the Caldwell Co. Sheriff’s Office, located Golds at a residence on Pisgah Church Road.
At this stage of the investigation, a clear motive for the shooting is unknown. Both the shooter and victim know one another and had been involved in a physical confrontation at the Ellison Place location. The victim was shot while inside a motor vehicle.
After he was taken into custody, Golds was transported to Caldwell Memorial for a hand injury he suffered earlier during the confrontation with the victim. He was treated and released from the hospital and then placed in the Caldwell Co. Detention Center under a $150,000 secured bond. A first appearance in Lenoir District Court was scheduled for today (May 2).
The investigation is ongoing.
