Crawdads Score Season High of Nine Runs in Win Over Kannapolis

One night after suffering through a humiliating 10-2 loss to the Kannapolis Intimidators, the Hickory Crawdads offense rebounded in a big way Saturday night with a season high nine runs in their 9-6 win over the Intimidators at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Every starting player picked up a hit for the 'Dads, with Joey Gallo (4) and Joe Maloney providing the power with home runs. Shortstop Luis Marte was the only Hickory player to finish with a multi-hit game however, going 2-3 with a run scored.
On the mound, starting pitcher Eric Brooks never really settled into the game, lasting just 3.2 innings and giving up five runs on six hits. Fortunately the Crawdads bullpen brought their "A" game, as Tyler Smith, Ryne Slack, and the newly acquired Cody Kendall combined to toss 5.1 innings and give up just one unearned run on four hits.
All the offense started early for the two clubs as both teams plated two runs in the first. The 'Dads tallies came off a two out, two RBI single from right fielder Nomar Mazara, while the Intimidators scored on a bases-loaded walk and an infield single.
Kannapolis would break up the tie in the second when first baseman Michael Marjama grounded a 2-RBI base knock up the middle to give his team a 4-2 advantage. That would last only a half inning though, as Hickory tied up the game with two runs in the third without the benefit of a hit.
First baseman Jorge Alfaro reached on a fielder's choice and scored on an error while Gallo walked and came in on a wild pitch.
The Crawdads finally broke things open and took a permanent lead in the fourth, when DH Joe Maloney launched his first home run of the year over the left field fence. The towering 2-run shot gave the 'Dads a lead they would never relinquish. The squad would score two more times in the frame on RBIs from Alfaro and Ryan Rua to push their advantage to 8-4.
Kannapolis would rally for two runs in the bottom of the frame to close within 8-6, but would get no closer. Hickory closed out the scoring in the top of the ninth with Gallo's solo shot to finish at 9-6.
Smith (2-0) picked up the win for the 'Dads after going 3.1 frames and allowing just an unearned run on two hits and four Ks. Intimidators starter Jefferson Olacio (0-2) was saddled with the loss after giving up eight runs, four earned, on seven hits and three walks in 3.1 innings. Kendall (1) earned the save with a scoreless ninth in his Crawdads debut.
With the victory Hickory (4-6) has taken two of three from Kannapolis (6-4). The two clubs will wrap up their four-game series Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 5:05 pm.
