Sandra Beasley Next Up in LRU's Visiting Writers Series 2/14/2013 2:46:38 PM
Sandra Beasley will be the sixth speaker in the Lenoir-Rhyne University Visiting Writers Series. Beasley will appear on the campus in the Belk Centrum on Thursday, February 21 at 7 p.m. No tickets or reservations are required.
Beasley, a poet and nonfiction writer, is LR's Spring 2013 Visiting Writer-in-Residence. Her debut collection of poems entitled “Theories of Falling” was selected by Marie Howe as winner of the 2007 New Issues Poetry Prize. Her second collection of poetry, “I Was the Jukebox” (2010) won the 2009 Barnard Women Poets Prize. In 2011, she published her memoir, “Don't Kill the Birthday Girl: Tales from an Allergic Life”.
Beasley is teaching a poetry course on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Lenoir-Rhyne. In addition to teaching classes, she’ll use her time at LR to work on her third collection of poetry, tentatively titled “Count the Waves”. Beasley lives in Washington, D.C., where she received her MFA from American University.
