Lenoir-Rhyne baseball rallies for win against North Greenville at home
2/8/2013 10:03:17 PM

The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (2-4) rallied from four runs down to defeat North Greenville (1-3), 13-12, Friday afternoon in a non-conference game at Bears Field.

L-R senior shortstop Dalton Hall (Hickory, N.C.) hit the game-winning, two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning with one out to lift the Bears to their second victory of the season.

North Greenville had taken a 12-11 lead in the top of the ninth on a two-run home run by Tyler Mitchell (Laurens, S.C.) before Hall's heroics in the bottom of the frame ended the contest.

The Crusaders' Frank Polino (Williamsville, N.Y.) drove in two runs with a double in North Greenville's half of the sixth inning for a 9-5 advantage before the Bears began their rally.

Freshman catcher David Martin's (Boone, N.C.) two-run single was part of a three-run eighth inning for the Bears which gave L-R an 11-10 lead before the squads traded a pair of runs in the ninth. Martin tallied three hits and three runs batted in on the day.

In addition, Hall finished with five hits while senior outfielder Rai Robinson (Kings Mountain, N.C.) drove in a game-high four runs for the Bears, who totaled 26 hits in the contest.

For North Greenville, Josh Sealey (Lexington, S.C.) also totaled five hits including a solo home run while Andrew Lawrence (Woodstown, N.J.) finished with three doubles despite the loss.

On the mound, Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Ivan Vieitez (Miami, Fla.) (1-0) was credited with the win while Allen Staton (Laurens, S.C.) fell to 1-1 with the loss for Belmont Abbey.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at Noon in Tigerville, S.C.
