According to published reports, 32-year-old Angie Hall was killed in an Officer-involved shooting at about 12:30 yesterday afternoon (January 29).
The shooting occurred after Catawba Co. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call regarding a woman who was threatening to take her own life at her home on East Highway 70 near James Street in Claremont.
Deputies arrived to find Angie Hall standing in the side yard of her residence. According to the reports, Officers confronted the woman who then raised her weapon and pointed it at them. One Deputy fired several shots. Hall died from injuries sustained in the shooting. She was declared dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office said Investigators do not believe Ms. Hall fired her weapon. An ongoing investigation will attempt to determine exactly how many shots were fired.
Other members of Ms. Hall’s family were present at the time of the shooting. No one else was injured.
The Deputy’s status is yet to be determined, pending the results of an internal investigation. Authorities have stated that they believe the Deputy acted in self-defense.
The incident is the area’s third Officer-involved shooting over a nine-day span, the second involving the Sheriff’s Office.
