H.P.D. Continues to Investigate Stolen Check Cases 1/18/2013 12:10:15 PM
Hickory Police continue to investigate four recent cases in which checks have been stolen from mailboxes. The checks have been altered and cashed at various locations in Hickory, Conover and Newton.
The businesses victimized are Roto-Rooter, A-1 Printing Plus, Engineered Handling and Cox Manufacturing, all in Hickory. The stolen checks have been cashed at two or three Asian markets and at convenience stores and grocery stores. The incidents occurred from the end of November 2012 to the most recent on January 9.
Police suspect an Asian male or males to be responsible for the crimes, though no specific information has been released regarding a suspect description or a description of the suspect’s vehicle. The fraudulent name used on the altered checks appears to be the same or nearly the same in each case.
Police advise the public not to leave checks or other sensitive information in their mailboxes for any length of time. Anyone with information should contact the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551.
