Holiday Concert Planned at Viewmont Baptist Church 12/10/2012 3:59:40 PM
The Viewmont Baptist Church Adult Choir and the Catawba Valley Community College Chorale present, “A Christmas Gloria” conducted by Michael Kirby, on two nights, Saturday, December 15 and Sunday, December 16 at 7 p.m. The performances will take place at the Viewmont Baptist Church, 1246 2nd Street N.E., next to Checker’s Restaurant in Hickory.
The musical presentation of holiday pop and sacred music includes a combined choir of 80 singers, a 22-piece orchestra from the Western Piedmont Symphony, the West Iredell High School Drum Corp and a combined handbell choir directed by Dr. Amalie Hinson of the CVCC music faculty .
Concert pieces include John Rutter's “Gloria,” an African-American spiritual version of the Hallelujah Chorus and holiday favorites like “A Celtic Silent Night.” The performances will be accompanied by organist Mary Ann Studenberg and pianist Helen Mercer.
A reception will follow both concerts. The concerts and receptions are free and open to the public, though a love offering will be collected. Childcare will also be provided each evening.
