Busy Morning for Catawba County Commissioners 12/3/2012 2:50:57 PM
The Catawba County Board of Commissioners met at 9:30 this morning (December 3) in the 1924 Courthouse at 30 North College Avenue in Newton.
The Board’s Finance & Personnel subcommittee recommended that a bid for construction of a new Animal Shelter be awarded to Edison Foard out of Charlotte, which submitted the lowest bid at $3,323,410. The new shelter will address overcrowding issues at the current shelter.
The Commissioners also awarded bids for construction of the final phase of the Highway 150 Sewer Project to Neill Grading & Construction Co., Inc. of Hickory in the amount of $2,975,354 and to Hickory Sand Company, Inc. in the amount of $3,711,763. The project is designed to provide sewer service to the southeast part of the county, in partnership with the City of Hickory. The project will replace the existing Hickory-Catawba wastewater treatment plant in the Town of Catawba.
Also at this morning’s meeting, newly re-elected Commissioners Barbara Beatty and Dan Hunsucker took their Oaths of Office for four-year terms and re-elected Register of Deeds Donna Spencer took her oath.
