Crawdads get three home runs in win over Greensboro
4/26/2012 11:04:24 PM

The Hickory Crawdads topped the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 5-4, before 2,039 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Thursday night.  With the win, the 'Dads move into sole possession of first place in the Northern Division standings.

After Hickory LHP Will Lamb struck out the side in the top of the first, the Grasshoppers (13-7) got on the board against him in the second.  With one down, DH Matt Smith drove a solo homer over the left field wall for the 1-0 lead.

Greensboro proceeded to score one run in each of the next three innings against Lamb and LHP Andrew Faulkner.  2B Austin Barnes hit a solo shot in the third and then singled in a run in the fourth, followed by an RBI single from SS Ryan Goetz in the top of the fifth, making it 4-0.

The Crawdads (14-6) started chipping away in the bottom of the fifth against LHP Charlie Lowell.  With one out and no one on, 3B Drew Robinson singled to right field.  LF Jeremy Williams then launched a two-run bomb off the batter's eye behind the center field wall to slice the deficit in half, 4-2.

The 'Dads came closer in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run by C Kellin Deglan, before overtaking the Grasshoppers in the seventh.  Williams reached base on a missed catch error by RF James Wooster to start the inning.  One out later, 2B Rougned Odor knocked a pitch from RHP Johnny Omahen (L, 1-1) over the right field fence to lift Hickory in front, 5-4.

Crawdads RHP Phil Klein (W, 2-0) navigated through his second scoreless frame in the eighth, and RHP Jose Monegro (S, 1) escaped a bases-loaded jam with back-to-back strikeouts in the ninth, closing the 5-4 win for Hickory.
