After going 14-4 in the SAC to win the league’s regular-season title, Lenoir-Rhyne will be the top seed in next week’s Food Lion SAC Softball Championship. The event begins on Thursday in Greeneville, Tenn.
L-R swept a pair of games over Lincoln Memorial on Saturday to finish ahead of No. 2 seed Catawba – which finished 12-5 -- in the final SAC standings.
The Bears’ conference title is the program’s third in a row and eighth overall. L-R enters the SAC Championship with an overall record of 42-11.
Anderson swept Tusculum on Saturday and will be the Championship’s No. 3 seed. In just the program’s second year of competition in the SAC, the Trojans made a significant jump after finishing ninth in the SAC a year ago.
After going 10-8 in the conference and 29-20 overall, Carson-Newman earned the No. 4 seed. The Eagles will face No. 5 seed Tusculum in the Championship’s first round.
TC and Brevard both finished with identical 9-9 SAC records, but the Pioneers earned the higher seed by virtue of a 2-0 head-to-head record over the Tornados.
Seeded seventh in the Championship is Wingate followed by Mars Hill at No. 8. WU will face Lenoir-Rhyne in the first round, while MHC will take on Catawba.
The 2012 Food Lion SAC Softball Championship will take place Thursday through Sunday on Tusculum’s campus. Thursday’s first-round action is slated to get underway at 10:30 a.m. at Red Edmonds Field.
