Three Jailed in Scheme to Trade Court Documents for Drugs (PHOTO ADDED 10:15 a.m.)

27-year-old Eric Lee Hubbard of Deer Tack Drive, along with 28-year-old Jessica Lindsy Miller and 26-year-old Christopher Dwayne Helton of Old N.C. 10, all from Connelly Springs, were arrested by Burke Co. Sheriff’s Officers in connection to a scheme in which Hubbard allegedly traded illegally obtained court documents for drugs.
According to Police, Hubbard, a night custodian who cleaned the District Attorney’s office at the Burke County Courthouse, made copies of sensitive documents in criminal cases and traded them to Miller for drugs. Hubbard had been employed by Patton Cleaning Co. Inc. of Lenoir since November of 2010 and had no criminal history.
Miller allegedly wanted the court documents so she could decide whom not to sell meth to. She likely distributed some of the documents to others. Police say no criminal investigations or prosecutions were jeopardized by the theft.
After an investigation that began last Friday when the Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip, Investigators searched Miller’s home and seized documents, videos, CDs, laptop computers, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and cash. The meth has a street value of about $1,000.
Hubbard and Miller are each charged with one count of obstruction of justice. Helton, who is Miller’s live-in boyfriend, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a schedule II controlled substance.
Additional charges are expected. Those could include federal charges, as mail is also missing from the courthouse.
Miller and Hubbard were both jailed under a $50,000 secured bond, while Helton’s bond was set at $25,000. They are all scheduled to make first appearances in court on June 13.
