One dies, one seriously injured in Highway 64-90 accident in Lenoir 3/9/2011 6:55:46 AM
One person died and another was airlifted to Carolinas Medical center late Monday after a single-car accident on Highway 64-90 east of Lenoir.
33-year-old Christina Spears of Lenoir was dead at the scene of the mishap, after a Honda Accord ran off the highway and plunged down a 100-foot ravine. The other occupant of the car, 26-year-old Thomas Jason Triplett, also of Lenoir, was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center after Little River Fire Fighters set up a helicopter landing zone nearby.
State Trooper C.C. Bentley said the Honda passed another car, but failed to pull back into the proper lane of traffic, then ran off the roadway into the ravine. Bentley said it was not clear right away whether alcohol was involved in the crash.
