App State/Western Carolina men's baskteball game start time moved2/6/2010 2:13:38 PM
Due to wintry weather - and for the travel safety of teams, game officials and fans alike - Western Carolina and Appalachian State made the decision to move the tip-off of Saturday’s men’s basketball game against the Catamounts to 3 p.m. in the Ramsey Center.
Saturday’s game was originally slated for a 7 pm start. However, Thursday night’s wintry weather and the threat of more ice, snow and freezing temperatures on Friday and Saturday evenings prompted the change.
Doors and all ticket windows will open at 1:30 pm.
The Mountaineers pulled away for an 87-74 win against the Catamounts on January 23 in Boone and look for the fifth season sweep in six seasons. Donald Sims scored a game-high 28 points in the win as the Apps have won 11 of the last 12 meetings with WCU.
Scouting the Catamounts
• Following a setback at Chattanooga last Thursday, WCU has regained control of the SoCon North with wins at Samford and against Georgia Southern.
• Jake Robinson averages 12.0 points per game and converts 41.4 percent of three-point attempts to lead the offense, while Brandon Giles and Mike Williams also score in double figures.
• The Catamounts are a perfect 12-0 at home, with only Wofford and Elon coming within five points of winning at the RAAC.
• WCU boasts the scoring lead in the SoCon with 76.8 points per game and a +8.3 scoring margin.
• Western Carolina also averages 9.7 steals per contest and a +4.2 turnover margin.
The Series vs. Western Carolina
• The Mountaineers won their 109th game in the series last month, to improve to 109-63 in the series.
• WCU took an 89-84 win last season in Cullowhee, snapping a 10-game ASU winning streak in the series.
• Sims averages 17 points per game against WCU, while Kellen Brand has a 15.5 scoring average against the Cats.
• The Mountaineers are 40-38 in Cullowhee after last season’s loss. Prior to that game, the Apps had won four-straight on the road in the series.
• Head coach Buzz Peterson is a perfect 11-0 against WCU, with nine of the wins coming at ASU from 1996-2000.
