Two Sentenced in Burke County Jailbreak2/5/2010 7:17:44 AM
34-year-old Larry Donnell Harbison and 21-year-old Matthew Renni Pierce each pled guilty in Caldwell County yesterday to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, one count of armed robbery, two counts of first degree kidnapping and one count of felonious larceny of an automobile.
As a result his plea arrangement, Harbison was sentenced to an active prison term of not less than 260 months and not more than 330 months; which equates to a minimum of 21 years or a maximum of 27 years.
As a result his plea arrangement Pierce was sentenced to an active prison term of not less than 200 months and not more than 258 months to months; or 16 to 21 years.
Harbison’s sentence is larger based solely on his extensive prior criminal record.
Earlier in 2009, Bryant Kelly Burgess already accepted his plea arrangement and received the same sentence as Pierce. Burgess has already begun serving his sentence in the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
The case involved an escape from the Burke Co. jail on January 10, 2007 in which three inmates overpowered and assaulted two jailors, escaped from jail and stole a car belonging to one of the jailors. The defendants were stopped and taken into custody by the Concord Police Department.
The Burke Co. Sheriff’s Department, the Morganton Department of Public Safety, the NC SBI and the Concord Police Department all assisted in the investigation of these crimes and the apprehension of the three individuals involved.
