NASCAR News
► NASCAR has placed Roush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards on probation for the next three Sprint Cup Series events in the wake of Sunday’s on-track altercation with Brad Keselowski that sent the Penske Racing driver spinning onto the roof of his Number-12 Dodge and eventually getting airborne before stopping right-side up - with no injuries to Keselowski. Edwards, who was parked immediately after the wreck, all but admitted it was payback for an incident between the two earlier in the race. Keselowski was running in sixth place just two laps from the finish when he was tagged by Edwards - who had returned to the track after losing more than a hundred laps in the garage while repairs were made to his Number-99 Ford. The period of probation for Edwards will include races at Bristol, Martinsville Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway. (John Singler,

► Two crew members have been indefinitely suspended by NASCAR for violating the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy: Matthew Huffstetler of Daisy Ramirez Motorsports in the Camping World Truck Series and William Keith from Front Row Motorsports in the Sprint Cup Series. Keith is a former brother-in-law of Jeremy Mayfield, who remains the only driver to be placed under indefinite suspension since NASCAR beefed up monitoring and enforcement of its substance abuse policy prior to the start of the 2009 season. NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston says he does not expect Keith’s suspension to have an impact in the ongoing legal battles between Mayfield and NASCAR. (John Singler,

IT HAPPENED ON THIS DATE
March 10th, 1994: Shawna Robinson became the first female to win a pole position for a major NASCAR touring race, starting Number-1 in the Busch Series race (now the Nationwide Series) two days later at Atlanta Motor Speedway. However, engine failure on Lap Sixty-three of the 195-lap event forced Robinson out of competition. She finished thirty-sixth in the race, which was won by Harry Gant. (John Singler,
