40-year-old Lisa Marie Williams was arrested Friday (March 8) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. She's charged with felony counts of possession of schedule II controlled substance, and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place to keep controlled substance, along with a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Williams was arrested shortly after 4 p.m. Friday at an address on Edgewood Avenue in Morganton. She was placed in jail in Morganton under $15,000 secured bond. A District Court appearance was scheduled today (March 11).
27-year-old Christy Dawn Mcgalliard was arrested Sunday (March 10) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. She's charged with felony larceny of a motor vehicle. Mcgalliard was arrested shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday at an address on Sunnyside Drive in Morganton. She was not listed as an inmate in Burke County, no upcoming court dates were listed.
39-year-old Jeremy John Howard of South 8th Avenue in Maiden was arrested Sunday (March 10) by Catawba County Sheriff's Officers. He's charged with possession of methampetamine, simple possession of schedule III controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer, and driving while license revoked. Howard was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $6,000 bond. District Court dates were scheduled today (March 11) and March 25.
34-year-old Alferetta Inez Morgan of Maple Place NW and 26-year-old Payton Dashe Wilson of Taubrook Place NW, both from Lenoir, were arrested by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Both suspects are charged with trafficking in methamphetamine. Morgan faces two counts and Wilson is charged with one count. They were both incarcerated in the Catawba County Detention Facility this morning (March 11) under $300,000 bond apiece. They're both scheduled to appear in District Court Tuesday (March 12).
A man was killed in a vehicle crash in Iredell County. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Friday (March 8) shortly after 7 p.m. Troopers responded to a collision at the intersection of Nixon Road and Shumaker Drive.
A Toyota SUV, operated by 81-year-old Norman Allen Dixon, of Cleveland, NC, was traveling east on Nixon Road. A Chevrolet SUV, operated by a Statesville woman, was traveling north on Shumaker Drive. The Toyota failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with the Chevrolet in the intersection. Both vehicles went off the road to the right; the Toyota collided with and damaged a utility pole.
Mr. Dixon was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were no other passengers. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. There were no indications of impairment.
A Morganton man will spend at least six years in prison after being convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon and larceny of a motor vehicle on Thursday, March 7 during Burke County Superior Court.
43-year-old Billy Earl Murphy was given an active prison term of six to eight years by the Honorable Robert C. Ervin, Superior Court Judge from Burke County, following his guilty plea. The defendant will serve his period of incarceration in the custody of the North Carolina Division of Adult Corrections.
Investigators from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a robbery on February 4, 2017. The defendant was lying in wait and surprised the female victim with the attack as she walked to her vehicle. He knocked her to the ground, hit her in the head and held her at gunpoint.
Murphy tried to conceal his identity behind a mask and hood but was recognized by the victim. He fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle. He was later found at a local convenience store in possession of the vehicle and items belonging to the victim.
Isaac Propst led the investigation for the Burke County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant District Attorney Michelle Lippert prosecuted the case for the State.
48-year-old Theodore Ira Paul Buckner of South Creek Road in Nebo was arrested February 15 by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, the substance being methamphetamine.
According to a news release issued Friday (March 8), on February 15, 2019, a deputy with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office patrolling the Lake James area noticed a car backed up to a locked gate on Benfield’s Landing Road. During the investigation, the deputy found a woman in the front passenger seat and a man crouched down behind the open passenger door who appeared to be hiding.
The man, later identified as Theodore Ira Paul Buckner, was instructed to stand up several times before he complied. Further investigation resulted in the discovery of meth in the vehicle and Buckner was arrested. Following his arrest, Buckner was placed in the Burke-Catawba District Confinement Facility under $3,000 bond. He was no longer listed as an inmate, no upcoming court dates were listed for the charge.
42-year-old Mark Toua Yang of Brandon Road in Morganton was arrested February 26 by Burke County Sheriff's Officers. He was charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver schedule II controlled substance with that substance being methamphetamine.
According to a news release issued Friday (March 8) officers with the North Carolina Department of Probation and Parole and Burke County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search at a residence on Brandon Road in Morganton. Following the search and further investigation, Yang was arrested on the drug charge.
Yang was placed in the Burke-Catawba District Confinement Facility under $10,000 secured bond. He was no longer listed as an inmate. A District Court appearance is scheduled for March 20.
54-year-old James Randy Hampton of Icard Dairy Burke Road in Hickory was arrested Sunday (March 10) by Long View Police Officers. He's charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hampton was detained in the Catawba County Detention Center under $3,500 bond. A District Court appearance was scheduled today (March 11).
40-year-old Flemon Jerome Ramseur of Ramseur Road in Maiden was arrested Sunday (March 10) by Maiden Police Officers. He's charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, non support of a child, and on an order for arrest for failure to perform community service hours. Ramseur was incarcerated in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $9,000 bond. Court dates were scheduled today (March 11), Thursday (March 14), and March 27.
36-year-old Kristopher Keith Childers was arrested Saturday (March 9) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He's charged with felony counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, receiving, transferring, or possessing a stolen vehicle, speeding to elude arrest, and habitual felon. Childers was arrested at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Burke County Jail in Morganton. He was being held in jail under $251,000 total secured bond on the charges issued Saturday along with previously filed counts. He has a Superior Court date April 29.
57-year-old Jeffery Dean Kirby of Sandy Acres Lane in Lenoir was arrested by Caldwell County Sheriff's Officers yesterday (March 7). He’s charged with two felony counts of possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance in a penal institution.
Kirby was taken to the Caldwell County Detention Center with bond set at $20,000, secured. A District Court appearance was scheduled for March 11.
24-year-old Jayson Christopher Corpening of Clay Apartment Court in Lenoir was arrested yesterday (March 7) by Caldwell County Sheriff's Officers. He’s charged with one felony count of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and two misdemeanor counts of simple possession of marijuana up to half an ounce and carrying a concealed handgun.
Corpening was placed in the Caldwell County Detention Center under a $120,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to appear in District Court yesterday.
50-year-old Jeffery Ben Pavkovich of Gainesville, Georgia was arrested by Catawba Co. Sheriff's Officers Wednesday (March 6) on a felony warrant as a fugitive awaiting extradition to another state. He was also charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for a controlled substance. Pavkovich is wanted by the Sheriff's Office in Hall County, Georgia for a probation violation.
Following his arrest, the suspect was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $200,000 secured bond. Pavkovich was scheduled to appear in District Court today (March 8) in Newton on the fugitive warrant with another District Court appearance coming up on April 1 on the drug charges.
38-year-old Michael Leon Bryant of 4th Street Drive N.W. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police at about 8:45 last night (March 7) on one felony count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Bryant was initially arrested in March of 2017.
Bryant was taken into custody without incident yesterday at a convenience store and fast-food restaurant on 12th Avenue N.E. in Hickory. He was jailed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $5,000 secured bond. He has since been released. An appearance in Superior Court was set for Monday (March 11) in Newton.
37-year-old Lori Jean Ward of Hidden Acres Lane in Granite Falls was arrested by Hickory Police at about 1:20 yesterday afternoon (March 7) on felony and misdemeanor counts of failure to appear. She allegedly failed to appear in court on charges of breaking & entering and communicating threats.
Ward was taken into custody without incident at a shopping center on Highway 127 South in Hickory. She was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond set at $15,000, secured. Ward was scheduled to appear in District Court today in Newton.
27-year-old Tavious Dale Anderson of 2nd Avenue S.E. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police at 3:25 yesterday afternoon (March 7) on one felony count of robbery with firearms or other dangerous weapons. He was also charged with a misdemeanor out-of-county probation violation.
Anderson was arrested in connection to an incident on January 2. At that time, Hickory Police took a report regarding a robbery that occurred in the parking lot behind a church in Viewmont. Tavious Dale Anderson was identified as the suspect and a warrant for his arrest was issued on February 19.
Yesterday, a Probation Officer brought Anderson to the Hickory Police Department where he was arrested. He was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond set at $52,500, secured. An appearance in District Court was scheduled today in Newton with another court date for the probation violation coming up on March 11.
The Hickory Police Department is investigating an armed robbery at a local restaurant. Thursday (March 7) at approximately 9:20 p.m., Hickory Police responded to Salsaritas at 944 2nd Street NE in reference to an armed robbery. During the robbery the suspect displayed a handgun and demanded the manager go to a back room of the business. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money the suspect fled.
The suspect is described as being a black male, wearing a mask, black Nike hooded shirt with a red stripe, black sweatpants and gloves.
