Catawba County Public Health reported a COVID-19 death Saturday (August 1), increasing the total to 28. 25 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Saturday, increasing the overall total to 1,924. 17 people were hospitalized, that's eight fewer than Friday (July 31). Approximately 12% of the people who were tested in Catawba County have come back positive, and the death rate is 1.4%.

Alexander County health officials Did not report any new COVID-19 cases Saturday, keeping the total at 261, with two deaths. Burke County Public Health did not have a media briefing Saturday, the county's dashboard showed 1,621 positive cases, six more than the last update from the county. There have been 28 coronavirus-associated deaths in Burke County and six people were hospitalized.

No update was provided by the Caldwell County Health Department Saturday. On Friday Caldwell health officials learned of two COVID-19-related deaths, increasing the total to 14. One patient was over the age of 75 and the other was between the ages of 65 and 74. Both patients were hospitalized and were reported to have underlying health conditions. 25 new cases of the coronavirus were reported in Caldwell Friday, increasing the total to 1,096. There were 20 people hospitalized and at least 477 patients had recovered.
