Catawba County Public Health reported 36 new cases of COVID-19 Friday (July 31), increasing the county's total to 1,899, with 27 deaths. There were 25 people hospitalized with the coronavirus, five more than the Thursday (July 30) update.

The Caldwell County Health Department learned of two COVID-19-related deaths Friday, increasing the total to 14. One patient was over the age of 75 and the other was between the ages of 65 and 74. Both patients were hospitalized and were reported to have underlying health conditions. 25 new cases of the coronavirus were reported in Caldwell Friday, increasing the total to 1,096. There were 20 people hospitalized and at least 477 patients had recovered.

28 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Burke County Friday, increasing the total to 1,615, with 28 deaths. Six people were hospitalized and at least 1,217 patients had recovered. There will be a drive-thru COVID-19 testing clinic at the Jonas Ridge Fire Department Sunday (August 2) from 1-4 p.m. Testing is free but bring your insurance card if you have it. It is recommended that you call 828-764-9168 to pre-register, but drop-in patients will be tested.

Four new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Friday in Alexander County, increasing the total to 261, with two deaths. There were 26 people in quarantine with COVID-19 and at least 231 patients have recovered.
