33-year-old Joe Henry Furr of Eastridge Lane in Mooresville was arrested Friday (July 10) by Catawba County Sheriff's Officers. He's charged with first-degree murder.
He's charged in connection to the fatal shooting earlier in the week that claimed the life of 56-year-old Shaun Michael Loughrey. On Tuesday (July 7) at 1:40 p.m. deputies with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a deceased person at residence on Hopewell Church Road in Sherrills Ford. When deputies arrived they discovered Shaun Michael Loughrey dead inside his residence. It appears that Loughery died after suffering one or more gunshot wounds. Furr was taken into custody in the parking lot of a business along Freedom Drive in Charlotte on Friday at approximately 8:00 p.m.
His arrest was effected through a collaborative effort between the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (SBI-VCAT) Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (CMPD-VCAT) Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Group (SEG) and the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division (CID).The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office also thanks the Mooresville Police Department, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and Sherrills Ford Terrell Fire Rescue for their assistance with this investigation.
Furr was placed in the Catawba County Detention Facility in Newton where he was being held without bond. A District Court appearance is scheduled for Monday (July 13).
