18-year-old Caeson Shayne Cannon of Duncan Hill Lane in Taylorsville was arrested early this morning (July 10) by Hickory Police on one felony count of possession, sale, or purchase of a gun with an altered serial number. A second suspect, an 18-year-old male from Hickory, was also arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and discharging a firearm in the city limits.
The arrests came after Hickory Police conducted a traffic stop at a business on 2nd Avenue S.E. During the stop, Officers were told of a shots-fired call in the same area. Cannon’s vehicle matched the vehicle description from the shots-fired call. During the investigation, Officers found an AR-15 with no serial number. Cannon and the other suspect said the discharge was accidental. 2.9 grams of marijuana was also found during the incident.
Both suspects were arrested shortly after 2 a.m. today. Cannon was processed and released to his father's custody. He'll make a first appearance in District Court Monday (July 13) in Newton. The other suspect was released under a $1,000 unsecured bond with a District Court date on August 3.
