Shortly before 9 p.m. last Thursday (November 28), the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to a fatal hit-and-run collision in Iredell County on U.S. 64 near Barry Oak Road.

A bicyclist traveling east on U.S. 64 in the travel lane was struck from behind by a pickup truck. The bicyclist was ejected from the bicycle, knocked into the opposite lane, and struck by a westbound G.M.C. sport utility vehicle. The G.M.C. immediately stopped. The pickup truck did not stop and continued traveling east on U.S. 64.

The bicyclist, 30-year-old Matthew Franklin Redden of Statesville, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was dressed in dark clothing and was not wearing a helmet. The G.M.C. was driven by a 39-year-old woman from Paradise, Texas. The occupants of the S.U.V. were not injured.

Investigators are searching for a 1994-2002 Dodge RAM lifted pickup truck with a loud exhaust. The vehicle may be black or dark in color and have damage to the driver’s side, front, grill, and headlight area. Anyone with information should call the Highway Patrol at 828-466-5500 or dial 9-1-1.
