55-year-old Steve Olen Childers of 29th Street S.W. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police at 8:25 last night (November 6) on one felony count each of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a schedule II controlled substance; maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for a controlled substance; and possession of methamphetamine, plus one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. According to H.P.D.'s arrest report, Childers was in possession of 16.07 grams of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest.
He was also charged with felony and misdemeanor probation violations. Childers is on probation following a May 2019 conviction in Onslow County for felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance and misdemeanor counts of fleeing to elude arrest and D.W.I.
Childers was taken into custody without incident at a retail store on Highway 70 S.E. in Hickory. He was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond set at $15,000. A first appearance in District Court was scheduled today with Superior Court date on the probation violations coming up tomorrow, both in Newton.
