Maiden Man Killed in Early Morning Crash in Newton

24-year-old Aaron Lineberger of Maiden was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Newton early this morning (October 9). The N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene at 4:45 a.m. today.

According to the Highway Patrol, the accident occurred as Mr. Lineberger was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla southbound on Saint James Church Road at an excessive rate of speed. He ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, ran off the right side of the road again, and hit a phone junction box, a utility pole, and a tree. The Toyota came to rest on the right shoulder of the road.

Mr. Lineberger was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt. It is unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, pending the results of an autopsy.
