38-year-old Chasty Elaine Hinson of Michaels Street in Morganton was arrested by Caldwell Co. Sheriff's Officers yesterday (September 10) on felony counts of trafficking in methamphetamine, trafficking in heroin or opium, and possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule I & II controlled substances.
Hinson was apprehended when stopped by a Sheriff’s Deputy for driving without a license and while detained, a Sheriff’s Office K-9 detected the presence of illegal drugs. As a result, Officers searched the vehicle and located just under two pounds of methamphetamine, 43 grams of heroin, a Taurus 9mm pistol, and $9,400 in cash.
The suspect has been suspected to be a major drug dealer in this area. The drugs have a street value of $124,050 according to North Carolina State Guidelines. Following her arrest, Hinson was jailed in the Caldwell Co. Detention Center with bond set at $250,000, secured. A first appearance in District Court was scheduled today in Lenoir. If convicted, she is facing a mandatory prison sentence.
