27-year-old Christopher James Adams of Gunpowder Drive in Hickory was arrested early Saturday morning (August 16) on charges of felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance and misdemeanor counts of carrying a concealed gun, carrying a concealed weapon while consuming alcohol and D.W.I.
He was arrested after Police stopped the 2014 Infiniti he was driving for speeding in the parking lot at the Legends apartment complex on 21st Street S.E. in Hickory. While following the vehicle prior to the traffic stop, Officers saw a malt beverage being thrown from the vehicle.
Officers conducted a field sobriety test and a search of the vehicle was conducted, leading to the discovery of a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun with a holster, two magazines and a container with one gram of a white powder substance later identified as MDMA (also known as ecstasy or molly).
Adams was taken into custody without incident and placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $4,600 secured bond. He was scheduled to make a first appearance in District Court today (August 18) in Newton.
