Morganton Woman Charged With Helping Broughton Patient Escape

A former employee of Broughton Hospital has been charged with helping a patient at the facility escape. According to published reports, 39-year-old Jamie Lynn Patton of Morganton was arrested after allegedly checking into a Motel in Black Mountain with her patient, 40-year-old Joey Clipse. Patton is charged with harboring a fugitive, Clipse had recently been arrested this in Fairfax, Virginia.

The published reports say that court documents show that Patton became a suspect after her co-workers said she had an unusually friendly relationship with Clipse.
Police went through her cellphone records and determined she had called the motel numerous times after Clipse escaped. The reports say that Patton and Clipse spent four days at the roadside motel.

Clipse was sent to Broughton after it was determined he was incapable of standing trial for allegedly assaulting deputies in both Tennessee and North Carolina during a high-speed chase.
