Lightning Causes Fire at Hickory Furniture Plant

At about 6:37 a.m. yesterday (August 14), Hickory Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at CTH/Sherrill Occasional, 2425 Highland Avenue N.E. in Hickory. Firefighters responded with two engines, a ladder truck, and one command unit.

Upon arrival at 6:40 a.m., Firefighters found the building had been evacuated and the sprinkler system had activated. A fire in the building's break room was contained by the sprinkler system. Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and determine its source.

No injuries were reported. Damages to the break room were considered moderate. Fire Investigators determined that the fire was caused by a lighting strike.
