11,000 chickens were killed as a result of a fire in Alexander County. According to published reports, the fire destroyed a chicken house Thursday morning (July 11). Investigators say the fire was accidental and most likely electrical in nature, but an exact cause has not been determined.
Firefighters from departments across the area responded. While they were not able to save that building and the chickens inside they were able to protect a similar building just feet away. That structure sustained only minor damage as a result of the heat and all of the chickens in that building were saved.
