41-year-old Tracy Nicole Brooks of Goins Drive in Valdese was arrested Wednesday (July 10) by Burke County Sheriff's Officers. She's charged with felony flee to elude arrest.

Wednesday at approximately 10:00 a.m., Burke County Sheriff’s Office detectives saw a silver Acura speeding through a work zone. Reaching speeds of approximately 100 miles-per-hour, deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop near mile marker 111 on Interstate 40. The vehicle failed to stop for emergency lights and siren while reaching speeds of 110 mph.

The chase continued for approximately seven miles. It ended when the driver pulled into the Sheriff’s Office parking lot. The driver and owner of the vehicle, Tracy Nicole Brooks, told deputies she was turning herself in on an outstanding warrant; however, a check did not reveal any pending charges against her.

Brooks was placed into custody and charged with the flee to elude arrest count. She was placed in the Burke-Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $10,000 secured bond. She was no longer listed as an inmate as of today (July 12). A District Court date was scheduled today. Brooks' vehicle was seized by the Sheriff’s Office as part of North Carolina’s "Run and Your Done" law.
