26-year-old Samuel Lamont Harris, Jr. of East Club Drive in Gastonia was arrested by Hickory Police early this morning (June 11) on one felony count each of possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a stolen firearm, plus misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting, delaying, or obstructing a public officer. According to H.P.D.'s arrest report, Harris was in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest. In addition, the suspect was arrested on outstanding warrants on 12 counts of breaking & entering a motor vehicle, four counts of misdemeanor larceny, and ten counts of felony conspiracy. Those warrants were issued on June 7 & 11.
Harris was taken into custody without incident at 1 a.m. today at a fast-food restaurant on Highway 70 S.E. in Hickory. He was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $160,000 secured bond. A first appearance in District Court was scheduled today with another court date coming up on June 25, both in Newton.
