Hickory Man Jailed for Felony Probation Violation

31-year-old Tyrone Naim Powell of 12th Avenue S.E. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police at about eleven o'clock yesterday morning (May 14) for a felony probation violation. The Catawba Co. Sheriff's Office also charged the suspect with non-support of a child. Powell is on probation as he serves a 24-month suspended sentence following a May 2017 felony conviction in Catawba County for possession with intent to sell a schedule II controlled substance. The warrant for his arrest was issued in July of last year.

Powell was taken into custody without incident at the Hickory Police Department. He was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond set at $5,000, secured, plus a $500 bond on the non-support charge. An appearance in Superior Court was scheduled for May 20 in Newton. Powell will also appear in court on May 23 on the non-support charge.
