An inmate in the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detention Center is in critical condition after a suicide attempt yesterday (May 13).
The 33-year-old male inmate, who is from Lincolnton, was found hanging by a bed sheet attached to the top bunk in his cell. The inmate was unresponsive. Detention center personnel, Lincoln County E.M.S., and Boger City Firefighters performed C.P.R. and were able to regain a pulse. The man was rushed to Atrium Health – Lincoln and then transferred to Atrium Health in Charlotte where he is listed in critical condition.
Detention Center Officers checked the cell-block at 5:06 p.m. and reported no problems. At 5:42 p.m., a cellmate returned to the cell after performing work duties in the jail. The cellmate found the victim hanging from the bunk and alerted jail personnel.
The victim has been in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center since January 17 of this year after he was arrested on charges for felony child abuse and assault on a child under 12 years of age. He was being held under a $40,000 secured bond.
