17-year-old Zamare Nadja Davidson of Hickory, the alleged shooter in a homicide in Hickory's Ridgeview community last night (April 11), has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. 20-year-old Jonathan Tyler Laxton of Conover has been arrested in connection to the shooting. He was charged with one count of accessory after the fact.

Davidson allegedly shot and killed 16-year old Devin O’Dariess Lee of Hickory. The incident, which appears to be a result of a dispute between Davidson and the deceased, occurred at about 8:20 last night as Hickory Police responded to a "shots fired" call on the 900 block of 1st Street S.W. Before Police arrived, bystanders transported Mr. Lee to Frye Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds. Mr. Lee passed away as a result of his injuries. A three-year-old child who was outside at the time of the shooting was struck by shrapnel and, at last report, was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers responded to the hospital after they received a report regarding an individual in the parking lot with a weapon. Officers did not locate an armed subject on the property. Due to the large number of persons at the hospital (family, etc.), Officers remained on the scene for crowd control. No further incidents were reported.

Shortly before 9 p.m., Hickory Police received information that Davidson had committed suicide at a residence in Burke County. Laxton was taken into custody at the Burke County residence.

Laxton was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under $25,000 bond initially, that has since been increased to $75,000. A first appearance in District Court was scheduled today in Newton.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should call Hickory Police at 828-328-5551 or contact Investigator Carlos De Los Santos directly at 828-261-2621 or cdelossantos@hickorync.gov.
