19-year-old Joshua David Dalton of Meyers Drive in Statesville was arrested Wednesday (March 13) in Floyd County, Virginia. He's facing a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in Iredell County. Floyd County authorities charged him as a fugitive from justice.
The warrants stem from an incident which occurred on Sunday (March 10). A 911 call was received in reference to a man being shot shortly after 8:00 p.m. Deputies arrived on the scene at an address on Damascus Church Road within minutes. They were told by witnesses the suspect had fled the scene heading towards Alexander County.
The suspect was identified as Joshua David Dalton. The scene was secured so the investigation could continue with detectives, and crime scene investigators. Information was sent out to other deputies, and to surrounding counties in an attempt to locate the suspect.
While the suspect search continued detectives arrived to process the crime scene. They interviewed a witness who saw the shooting occur. The victim, who suffered what appeared to be a non-life threatening wound, was later interviewed at a medical facility.
According to the interviews, Joshua Dalton arrived at the Damascus Church Road address. The suspect was known to the victim and witness. The victim said Joshua was not welcome there, and he confronted him in the driveway and told him he had to leave. Dalton then pulled out a gun from inside his vehicle, and shot the victim once before fleeing the scene.
During the investigation, Iredell County detectives gathered information about Dalton having family members in Floyd County, Virginia. Authorities in Virginia went to a residence, which Iredell County detectives had identified as a possible location for the suspect. Dalton was found and taken into custody.
He was placed in the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin, Virginia, where he was being held without bond. No Iredell County Court dates were listed.
