31-year-old Rodney Dean Payne of Rudisill Street in Hickory was arrested Sunday night (February 24) by Hickory Police on one felony count of possession of a schedule II control substance. A second suspect, a homeless woman from Hickory, was also arrested on a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
They were arrested after Officers observed and investigated a suspicious vehicle located at a business on Highway 70. During the investigation, Officers found a syringe containing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Both the driver (Payne) and the passenger were arrested.
Both suspects were taken into custody without incident. Payne was placed in the Catawba County Detention Facility with bond set at $2,000, secured. The female suspect was released under a $1,000 unsecured bond. Payne was scheduled to make a first appearance in District Court yesterday (February 25) with another court date scheduled for March 18 in Newton. The other suspect has a court date on March 4.
