According to Watauga County Emergency Management 67-year-old Frank Sanady of Charlotte has been located uninjured. He was in a very rugged area well off the trail.Rescuers were facing challenges due to the weather and terrain.Helicopter extrication is not going to be possible.Updates will be posted when available.
The search was conducted for Sanady on the China Creek Trail in Blowing Rock. He reportedly entered the China Creek Trail at noon Saturday (February 9). China Creek Trail begins at a marked trail head on Laurel Lane in Blowing Rock and descends several hundred feet in elevation, ending on Johns River Road.
The trail, which is extremely rugged terrain, is located in Pisgah National Forest. Sanady was said to be an experienced hiker and was thought to have some supplies.
Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue, Blowing Rock Police Department, Caldwell Emergency Management, Caldwell County Admin, Collettsville Fire and Rescue, Granite Falls Fire and Rescue, Linville Rescue, US Park Ranger were involved in the search. Linville Rescue provided a K9 team and Granite Falls Fire Department provided a drone, equipped with thermal imaging capabilities.
