49-year-old Penny Jeane Hurley of 35th Street Court N.E. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police just before midnight last night (January 10) on two felony counts of habitual larceny.
She was arrested in connection to two incidents, the first on December 30, 2018 when Officers responded to a shoplifting call at a grocery store on 29th Avenue Drive N.E. in Hickory. The suspect was no longer at the store when Police arrived. A review of surveillance video led authorities to identify the suspect as Penny Jeane Hurley. Warrants for her arrest were issued.
Police were called back to the same store the following day. A shoplifting suspect again left the store before Police arrived. Surveillance video showed that Hurley was the suspect. Additional warrants were issued.
Hurley was taken into custody without incident last night at a church on 21st Street S.E. in Hickory. She was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond set at $25,000, secured. An appearance in District Court was scheduled Monday (January 14) in Newton.
