49-year-old Robert Lee Waldroup of Henry Road in Vale was arrested Thursday (January 10) by Lincoln County Sheriff's Officers. He's charged with one felony count each of discharging a firearm inside an enclosure to incite fear and assault by strangulation inflicting physical injury. In addition, Waldroup is charged with misdemeanor assault on a female.
Deputies responded to the Lincoln County magistrate’s office after the woman went there seeking help. She told deputies that the suspect, Waldroup, started an argument when she came home. She said the argument escalated into a fight and she was assaulted.
She told deputies that Waldroup struck her a number of times and attempted to choke her. She was able to grab several possessions and in the process of leaving Waldroup allegedly pointed a pistol at her and discharged the gun into the wall of the living room.
Deputies took the woman’s statement and went to the residence in the 7400 block of Henry Road in Vale to serve warrants on Waldroup. Officers were unable to get anyone to the door so a deputy was dispatched to the magistrate’s office to secure a search warrant. After the deputy left the scene Waldroup opened the front door. He was placed in custody without incident. The suspect told deputies he did not own a firearm and did not have a firearm in the residence.
When the deputy arrived back at the residence with the search warrant, a pistol was located under the bed in the bedroom. Two rounds out of the six bullets in the pistol had been discharged. Waldroup was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $200,000 secured bond. No court date was listed.
