21-year-old Joseph Austin Vanbuskirk of London Street in Glen Alpine was arrested Monday (January 7) by Burke County Sheriff's Officers. He's charged with felony counts of possession of heroin, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Vanbuskirk is also charged with misdemeanor counts of simple possession of schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and simple possession of schedule II controlled substance.
According to a news release issued Thursday (January 10), on December 14, 2018, NC Probation and Parole Officers and Burke County Sheriff’s Office detectives went to a residence on London Street in Glen Alpine. Upon arrival, probation officers made contact with Joseph Austin Vanbuskirk, who was currently on probation for a felony conviction. Officers located a rifle inside the residence, as well as heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Vanbuskirk was taken to the magistrate's office on a probation violation charge and detectives issued warrants on the drug and firearm charges. Vanbuskirk received a $15,000 secured bond and was transported to the Burke-Catawba District Confinement Facility. He was no longer listed as an inmate in Burke County as of Friday (January 11). His next District Court date is scheduled for January 28.
