45-year-old Jason Lee Kearney of Chapman Point Circle in Dallas, NC, was arrested Sunday (January 6) by Catawba County Sheriff's Officers. He's charged with felony counts of flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, and parole violation.
Sunday at approximately 12:50 p.m., Catawba County Deputies initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle driven by a suspect known to have an outstanding felony warrant. Deputies spotted the suspect, Kearney, driving near the intersection of North Carolina Highway 16 South near Buffalo Shoals Road.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the suspect fled from officers. Deputies gave chase and followed the vehicle through Maiden and Newton. The chase ended just north of the intersection of NC 16 South and NC 16 Business. Police reports say when Kearney was being taken into custody, meth was found in the front passenger area of his vehicle.
Kearney was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $20,000 bond on the flee to elude and drug charges and no bond on the parole violation count. A District Court appearance was scheduled today (January 7). More charges are expected.
