Name Of Victim In Fatal Catawba County Crash Released

More information, including the name of the victim, has been released regarding a fatal vehicle crash in Catawba County. The single-vehicle crash occurred shortly after noon Thursday (December 27) near Interstate 40, exit 130, in Conover. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reports the eastbound vehicle ran off the Interstate and hit a light pole. The driver, identified as 59-year-old Scott Randolph Hammett, Jr. of Clemmons, was pronounced dead at the scene by Catawba County E.M.S.

Mr. Hammett was operating a 2007 Honda Accord. A dog in the vehicle was also killed as a result of the crash. Mr. Hammett was the Senior Pastor of Clemmons First Baptist Church in Clemmons. The investigation is ongoing, a news release says Troopers are considering the possibility of a medical condition as a contributing circumstance to the collision.
