Newton Police have released more information regarding a fatal crash yesterday (December 19) in Newton. The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Rocky Brett Hilton of Maiden.
The accident occurred at about 1:39 p.m. Wednesday on Southwest Boulevard at Meadowbrook Drive. A tractor-trailer leased to McCreary Modern Inc. of Newton and a Ford Mustang were involved in the accident. The tractor-trailer was driven by 55-year-old Tommy Ray Madron of Lenoir.
The tractor-trailer was traveling south on Southwest Boulevard when it was struck in the left front and left side by the Mustang, which was traveling north. After impact, the Mustang continued north. It ran off the right side of the road before coming to rest in a wooded area east of Southwest Boulevard. The tractor-trailer traveled a short distance before coming to rest in a ditch on the west side of Southwest Boulevard.
Mr. Hilton was pronounced deceased at the scene by E.M.S. Mr. Madron was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators say it appears the Mustang crossed the centerline before striking the tractor-trailer. The investigation is ongoing.
Southwest Boulevard was closed for approximately four-and-a-half hours following the crash.
In addition to Newton Police, responding agencies included the Newton Fire Department, Catawba County E.M.S., Catawba Co. Emergency Services, the Catawba Co. Sheriff’s Office, the Hickory Police Department, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
