NCDOT Crews Preparing Roads In Hickory Area For Winter Weather

North Carolina Department of Transportation maintenance and contract crews have started to treat the region’s roads as a winter storm toting a mixed bag of precipitation approaches the area.

Starting at lunchtime today (December 6), more than 200 employees in Division 12, which includes Alexander, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell and Lincoln counties, started pre-treating roads with brine, a water-salt solution that helps prevent snow and ice from bonding to the road surface.

The application process will continue into Friday, so motorists should remain alert for brine trucks and give them plenty of room. Additional safety tips for motorists and details on how NCDOT prepares for winter storms can be found at NCDOT's website.
